This approval comes a week after the EMMC board of trustees voted to move forward with the project and four years after receiving a certificate of need for the expansion, according to the release.
The project will update surgery, cardiac and women and infants services, and will increase the hospital’s bed capacity to 411. The hospital expects to begin construction of phase one in April 2013.
The expansion will cost approximately $250 million, according to a Bangor Daily News report.
