Dr. Brian Gibler: Becker’s 2013 Leadership Award Nominee

W. Brian Gibler, MD, leads the 397-bed University of Cincinnati Health University Hospital and serves as vice president of UC Health. Backed with an extensive and distinguished clinical career, Dr. Gibler is well-equipped to lead a system that includes the largest physician group in the Cincinnati area.

Dr. Gibler assumed his current leadership roles in October 2010. Before his appointment, Dr. Gibler served as the Richard C. Levy professor and chair of emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He also served as medical director of emergency services at the hospital — a role he stepped down from upon the assumption of his current leadership duties.

In his time at University Hospital, Dr. Gibler founded the Heart ER Program and served as executive co-chairman of CRUSADE, a national quality improvement initiative that involves hospital-based strategies to reduce heart attacks. More than 400 hospitals across the country participated in the initiative.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Gibler was a faculty member at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn. He has published more than 230 peer-reviewed articles on the diagnosis and treatment of acute coronary syndrome and is senior editor of the book Emergency Cardiac Care.
