Dr. Abelson has extensive healthcare executive and leadership experience gained over more than twenty years at Park Nicollet Health Services, a leading integrated delivery network (IDN) in the Minneapolis – St. Paul market. From 2010-to-2014, Dr. Abelson served as CEO of Park Nicollet where he led the merger between Park Nicollet and HealthPartners, a leading health care system serving the Upper Midwest.
Dr. Abelson was accountable for the successful integration of the combined firms’ clinical teams and operations, which at the time had annual revenue of $2.2 billion, and assumed leadership for overall care delivery involving 1,700 physicians and clinical professionals at Park Nicollet, Methodist Hospital, HealthPartners Clinics and Regions Hospital in Minneapolis – St. Paul. Prior to serving as CEO, Dr. Abelson served in several leadership positions at Park Nicollet, including Chief Clinical Officer where he led clinical staff and operations; Chief Medical Information Officer, in which he was responsible for the system’s information technology organization; and, Vice President for Strategic Improvement, in which he led the successful implementation and deployment of the IDN’s enterprise electronic health record (EHR) system.
