The three-year demonstration, which begins in 11 states starting Aug. 27, will audit medical records for claims after they are submitted but before they are paid. The outcomes for the demonstration will be based on the reviewer’s clinical judgment of whether an item or service was eligible for Medicare coverage and reasonable and necessary, according to the report.
