Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Cincinnati Children’s Heart Institute has been a pioneer in providing pediatric cardiology services and was first in the nation to implant a ventricular assist device in a Duchenne muscular dystrophy patient. To spread its expertise even further, the Heart Institute offers an e-consult program, allowing patients’ primary care physicians to work virtually with experts from Cincinnati Children’s. Internally, the hospital is currently transforming pediatric cardiac care services to bring a “bench to bedside” model that drives information exchange between providers. The hospital received $11.5 million in funding for pediatric cardiology in 2015 and was ranked No. 6 in the nation for pediatric cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report.
