The U.S. Attorney for the district of Arizona alleged Edward J. Quinn, MD, violated the False Claims Act by billing Medicare for Thoracic Electrical Bioimpedance tests, which measure blood flow in cardiac patients.
In a statement, Dr. Quinn said the tests were medically appropriate but he was not aware Medicare changed coverage policy for the tests. He said his practice has now changed internal procedures to better track Medicare coverage policies.
Dr. Quinn also entered into an integrity agreement with the HHS Office of Inspector General that includes monitoring and compliance provisions for Medicare regulations.
