The Sanford Heart Hospital is attached to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls and will begin a staggered opening March 5. The facility is designed to accommodate increased patient volumes and future technology. Charles O’Brien, MD, president of Sanford USD Medical Center said, “I think the building is different than anything we’ve seen in Sioux Falls for a long time,” according to the report.

However, Avera Heart Hospital, also in Sioux Falls, says Sanford is only mimicking what Avera Heart has been doing for years in patient care. “I think they’ve done a pretty good job of copying what we’ve done,” said Jon Soderholm, president and CEO of Avera Heart Hospital, in the report.
