Madera (Calif.) Community Hospital will reopen March 18 after it closed more than two years ago and sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2023, The Fresno Bee reported March 17.
More than 900 healthcare workers were displaced when the hospital closed, the publication reported.
In February 2025, Steve Stark, CEO of Madera Community Hospital said in a Facebook video that management of the 106-bed acute care facility expected the state’s department of public health to complete a survey assessing its readiness to provide patient care.
The survey, which reviewed policies and procedures, employee files, supplies, equipment and facilities, was anticipated to last about a week.
“You’ve stood beside us,” Mr. Stark said. “You’ve allowed us to have delays. You’ve been patient and you’ve been so nice and welcoming, and we know what an important asset this is for Madera. We’re almost there. We’re to the finish line.”
