The organizations have not discussed specific costs or projects, but the NRD’s funding could be anywhere from tens of thousands of dollars to $250,000, according to the report.
NRD is considering projects that would fit with its mission and support the cancer center. While the NRD cannot provide funds toward construction of the facility, it may contribute toward parks, healing gardens and retention ponds on the hospital campus, according to the report.
Other funding for the cancer center is coming from the state of Nebraska, which is providing $50 million, and Douglas County, which is contributing $5 million. In addition, the Omaha City Council is considering a new tax on cigarettes that would provide $35 million for the project over 10 years, according to the report.
