After reports surfaced Apple intentionally slowed down older iPhones with weakening batteries, the company slashed the battery replacement price for the iPhone 6 and later models from $79 to $29.
Should iPhone users opt to replace batteries rather than upgrade to a new device, Barclays predicts Apple’s iPhone sales could face headwinds in 2018.
Mark Moskowitz, a Barclays analyst, said 77 percent of iPhone users have a 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus or SE model. Even a small portion of iPhone users choosing to replace their device batteries over an upgrade may affect sales, he speculated.
