As part of the acquisition, Abbott will be provided with the next-generation accommodating intraocular lens technology to address presbyopia, an age-related change in vision in which the eye can no longer adjust its focal length to allow clear vision at different distances, for cataract patients, according to the release.
Visiogen’s accommodating IOL, Synchrony, is designed to “deliver improved vision at all distances,” according to the release, and may eliminate the patient’s need for glasses or contact lenses. Synchrony is designed to mimic the eyes’ natural ability to change focus and has the potential to deliver a full range of vision to the patient.
