Surescripts’ health information network supports e-prescription, or electronically transmitting prescriptions between healthcare organizations and pharmacies. Under the certification, Teledoc will expand its e-prescribing services to offer providers medication history validation and prescription benefit access during video consultations.
Teladoc officials said the service will help to inform its physicians of patients’ current and past prescriptions to account for potential adverse drug interactions or allergic reactions when prescribing medications.
With the certification, Teladoc physicians will also be able to access Surescripts’ eligibility and formulary services to view patients’ drug formulary data to lower prescription costs for patients.
