Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Spectrum Health unveiled its MedNow application, a standalone telemedicine app.
Spectrum Health's telemedicine service, MedNow, was launched in 2014. Around 20,000 people have used MedNow for lower acuity conditions.
The new app enables patients to access a provider directly from their iPhone and Android devices. The app first connects patients with a medical assistant who will provide technical support and gather medical information. Patients can use the app to schedule an appointment and participate in a virtual visit.
"Consumers have been asking for more and better digital engagement. The MedNow app is in response to those demands," said Tina Freese Decker, executive vice president and COO of Spectrum Health.
