The university’s student counseling services, which are based at the school’s Hattiesburg campus, launched the telecounseling service in January. In the past, students on the Long Beach-based campus only had access to on-site counseling one day a week.
Through the telecounseling program, students on the Long Beach-based campus can now use video conferencing to receive remote mental health assessments and consultations from University of Mississippi Medical Center’s trained counselors and psychologists.
This telecounseling program represents an expansion of University of Southern Mississippi’s virtual healthcare services. In 2015, the university rolled out a telehealth program for primary care.
