Illinois hospital unveils telehealth app for nonemergency visits

Freeport, Ill.-based FHN Healthcare on Oct. 9 launched its new telehealth application, FHNow, which allows individuals to access a provider directly from their smartphone or computer.

Four things to know:

1. The telehealth app is available to anyone, not just FHN patients, and users can have their visit notes electronically forwarded to their FHN primary care provider.

2. The FHNow virtual visits aims to address nonemergency illnesses and injuries, such as sinus and ear infections, colds and rashes.

3. A virtual appointment costs $59. Insurance is not accepted for the service.

4. Appointments are available immediately or can be scheduled in advance, and FHNow physicians can send prescriptions directly to area pharmacies.
