How telehealth, home-based care is helping Trinity Health of New England supplement its workforce

Hartford, Conn.-based Trinity Health of New England's Chief Clinical Officer, Syed Hussain, MD, said newer forms of healthcare delivery, such as telehealth and home-care services have been helping retain its workforce, Yale Daily News reported March 27.

Trinity Health of New England said workforce retention has been one of its greatest challenges.

According to Dr. Hussain, the health system relies on contract labor, but that has been costly as the pay for travel nurses can be up to three times the salary of normal nurses.

Dr. Hussain said however telehealth services and home-based care services have provided a silver lining, and has been helping Trinity Health supplement and support its current workforce.

"We need all folks at the table to be able to ensure that we're able to continue to invest in our healthcare systems and services and programs that ultimately benefit the community," Dr. Hussain told the publication.
