Sayre, Pa.-based the Guthrie Clinic's virtual nursing program was able to reduce the health system's reliance on travel nurses and saved the organization $7 million in labor costs, EpicShare reported Aug. 7.
Guthrie created a virtual command center, dubbed the Pulse Center, which it integrated with Epic.
The command center allows remote nurses to monitor patients visually using cameras and two-audio way communication.
The program was able to extend the reach of bedside nursing and lower the amount of travel nurses working at Guthrie, which went from 172 full-time employees to 98 between April 2022 and April 2023.
