Former Cleveland Clinic CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove joins board of telemedicine startup

Toby Cosgrove, MD, who previously served as president and CEO of Cleveland Clinic, has joined the board of directors for Hims & Hers, the wellness and telemedicine startup announced Oct. 30.

"I've always believed that harnessing innovation improves patient outcomes," Dr. Cosgrove said in the announcement. "Hims & Hers is delivering a modern healthcare experience for consumers — enabling patients to access evidence-based, high-quality care on their own terms. I'm looking forward to working with Andrew [Dudum, founder and CEO] and his team as they lead the way in shaping the role digital medicine will play in the future of healthcare."

Dr. Cosgrove's appointment is particularly fitting, since he predicted in January that 2019 would be the year of telehealth.

Since leaving Cleveland Clinic in 2017 after serving as CEO for 13 years, Dr. Cosgrove has also taken on an advisory role at Google. He acts as an executive advisor to the Google Cloud team's healthcare and life sciences divisions.
