Children's of Alabama launches remote-monitoring app for pediatric patients

Birmingham-based Children's of Alabama hospital will integrate digital health developer Locus Health's telehealth platform for remote monitoring of pediatric cardiology patients.

Parents of infants with heart defects will be able to use Locus Health's remote monitoring app after being discharged from Children's of Alabama. The app is designed to allow patients to share vital health information in real-time with healthcare providers. It is compatible with Apple iPads and iPhones.

The telehealth platform will be added to Children's of Alabama's Hearts at Home Program, which provides monitoring for babies with complex congenital heart disease.

"With the launch of Locus Health at Children's of Alabama, families will have a tool that strengthens the connection between their child and healthcare providers, all from the comfort and convenience of their home," Hearts at Home Director Sarah Blair, RN, said in a press release emailed to Becker's Hospital Review. "Families will take an active role in their child’s care by electronically documenting vital data, such as heart rate, oxygen saturation and weight. Tools within the app empower them to recognize changes in their child before they become a life-threatening concern."
