Anthem invests in AI-enabled telehealth platform

K Health, a startup offering patients an artificial intelligence-powered symptom checker and telehealth consultations with primary care physicians, raised $48 million from investors that included its partner Anthem, Crunchbase reports.

Consultations with the platform begin with an AI analysis of patients' symptoms, after which they can be transferred to an on-call doctor for diagnosis and any necessary prescriptions or lab test orders. Individual consultations cost $14, or patients can opt in to an annual subscription for $39.

The Series C fundraise will reportedly support K Health's expansion efforts, including making the app available in more languages in the coming weeks.

Anthem began integrating K Health's technology into its own CareSpree telehealth app in July 2019, The Wall Street Journal reported at the time. The app is available to patients both in and outside of the Anthem network and allows them to pay for their primary care consultations directly within the app.
