Dr. Hahn told the Senate committee that he plans to encourage devicemakers to develop more devices for children.
“I agree that there is a strong need to increase access to medical devices in the pediatric population and recognize the unique needs of this population,” Dr. Hahn wrote in documents obtained by MedTech Dive.
He also wrote that he supports the development of a surveillance program to track how well medical devices do after they’ve hit the market.
Dr. Hahn reportedly said the development of the National Evaluation System for health Technology would be key to increase medical device safety, according to MedTech Dive.
“I think it is important for FDA to take a proactive, not passive, approach to upholding the gold standard for all medical products before and after they enter the market,” Dr. Hahn said.
Dr. Hahn also said that he would ban the use of electrical stimulation devices on disabled patients.
