Walgreens, Kroger to let shoppers buy reusable packaging

Pharmacy giant Walgreens and grocer Kroger will offer shoppers an option to buy products in reusable packaging.

The two retailers have partnered with Loop, which enables shoppers a greener alternative to recycling.

The pilot project launched in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington, D.C., on May 21.

The Loop platform works by allowing consumers to shop for items in customized, brand-specific durable packaging. When finished with the product, the packaging is collected, cleaned, refilled and reused. The platform aims to help companies reduce packaging waste and improve recycling infrastructure.
