Health and budget officials in the administration will meet Friday in a private session run by Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney to discuss policies to lower drug prices. One policy being considered for the executive order is a focus on value-based care agreements, where pharmaceutical companies and health insurers construct arrangements to pay for products based on their efficacy, according to the report.
Earlier this week, HHS Secretary Tom Price disclosed that President Trump sought suggestions for lowering drug prices from leading health agencies, Bloomberg Politics reported.
Mr. Price, CMS Administrator Seema Verma, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin are expected to attend the meeting.
President Trump has openly criticized pharmaceutical companies in the past, saying they are “getting away with murder” revealing his opinion that regulatory changes are necessary.
