Trucking industry provides less financial support to Donald Trump than past Republican nominees: 4 things to know

While trucking campaign contributions historically lean toward favoring Republican candidates, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump received a considerably smaller donation ($97,000) than past republican nominees, according to the Commercial Carrier Journal.

Here are four things to know.

  1. Mr. Trump received $97,000 from the trucking industry, far lower than the $1.05 million awarded to Mitt Romney in 2012 and the $375,000 donated to John McCain's campaign in 2008, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics.

  2. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton received more than $72,000 in contributions from the trucking industry, compared to the $80,601 donated to President Barack Obama's campaign in 2012 and the $151,864 given in 2008.
  1. About 82 percent of the industry's total financial contributions went to Republicans, with the remaining 18 percent went to Democrats.

  2. The trucking industry's 2016 contributions represent the 13th straight election cycle in which Republican candidates benefited the most from financial support, according to the report.
