Transportation, warehousing companies added almost 15k jobs in December: 6 things to know

Transportation and warehousing companies added 14,700 jobs last month, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Here are six things to know.

1. 80 percent of the jobs were at courier and messenger companies, according to The Wall Street Journal.

2. Warehouse and storage companies created 1,600 new jobs from November to December, according to the report.

3. Trucking fleets added 1,400 new jobs in December.

4. Overall, the transportation and warehouse sector added 62,100 jobs in 2016, a decrease from about 110,000 new jobs in 2015, reports WSJ.

5. About 62 percent of the jobs created in this sector for 2016 were at warehouse and storage operators.

6. Overall, the nation’s unemployment rate, at 4.7 percent, changed little in December and total nonfarm payroll employment grew by 156,000.
