Here are four things to know:
1. MedPlus operates more than 1,400 pharmacies across India and provides services to more than 10,000 people, according to the organization’s website. The pharmacy chain also operates an online pharmacy store called MedPlusMart, several lab testing centers and a surgical equipment distribution business.
2. In a statement to Reuters, an Amazon spokesperson said the company “[does] not comment on what we may do or may not do in the future.”
3. Amazon officially made its foray into the pharmacy business last month with its $1 billion acquisition of PillPack.
4. Reuters reports India will become an important growth market for Amazon, which expects groceries and household products to encompass half of its business in the nation during the next five years.
