Mylan CEO named to Fortune’s ‘Most Powerful Women’ list

The controversy surrounding the cost of EpiPen’s did not stop Fortune from including Mylan CEO Heather Bresch on its “Most Powerful Women” list for 2016.

Ms. Bresch faced large backlash in the past few weeks over the more than 500 percent price hike on Mylan’s life-saving EpiPen medication.

She first made Fortune‘s MPW list in 2012 right after she stepped into the role of CEO at Mylan. While Ms. Bresch ranked No. 47 on the 50-person list in 2012, this year she sits at No. 23, down one spot from her 2015 rank.

Fortune said it chose to keep Ms. Bresch on the list this year because the list simply represents the most powerful women in business and rankings are not affected by how each female wields that power. Fortune suggests that the EpiPen controversy actually indicates just how powerful Ms. Bresch is within the business world and drug industry.
