Montana rural emergency medical service agencies will receive $8.7 million for new medical equipment and ambulances through the federal Rural Health Transformation Program.
The investment will provide funding to 79 rural EMS agencies, according to a Sept. 29 CMS news release. The funding is part of the $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program funding awarded across all 50 states.
Four agencies will receive new ambulances to replace vehicles more than 20 years old and leased ambulances that are not fully functional. An additional 75 agencies, including three tribal governments, received funding for equipment.
The equipment includes IV pump systems, ventilators, cardiac monitors, power load systems and cots and stair chairs. Similar program investments have funded ambulances and EMS technology in Hawaii and pharmacy infrastructure in Ohio.
The investment is one part of the larger overall funding amount awarded to Montana for fiscal year 2026 through the Rural Health Transformation Program.
