How Tampa General reuses sterile surgical wrap to help the homeless

Nurses at Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital discovered they could use sterile surgical wrap to create sleeping bags for the homeless, according to ABC Action News.

The wrap, used to protect operating room instruments, is typically thrown away after use. Nurse anesthetist Nicole Hubbard, CRNA, reportedly got the idea to use the material — which is waterproof and conserves heat — to make sleeping bags from social media.

As of Oct. 28, Tampa General employees have made about 100 sleeping bags to give to the homeless population in the area.
