The internal pin in some needleless LAV connectors can break off when attached to glass syringes, and the FDA said the incompatibility “can delay therapy and potentially result in serious harm to patients.”
To prevent this issue, the agency recommended healthcare providers check if their connectors have an internal pin and stock drugs stored in emergency rooms, ambulances and crash carts in vials or prefilled plastic syringes.
