Florida VA hospital employees, supply companies indicted in kickback scheme

Workers at both Miami (Fla.) VA Hospital and West Palm Beach (Fla.) VA Hospital were indicted this week along with several medical supply companies in an alleged kickback scheme that netted millions of dollars for the supply companies.

According to the indictment, VA employees used government credit cards to order medical supplies for the hospitals in exchange for cash and kickbacks. Prices of some of the supplies were grossly inflated, and some orders were only partially filled or not filled at all, prosecutors charged.

Employees allegedly authorized payment of false invoices to get the kickbacks, collecting thousands of dollars in bribes over a decade, according to the Miami Herald

The supply companies involved include JAF Supply, Supply4vet, Delray Medical Supply/Distributors, Sunshine Supply USA, MarfGroup and E&J Supply, all owned by Jorge Flores, the Miami Herald reported. All of the involved companies allegedly collected millions of dollars as a result of fraud and kickbacks.
