The delivery vehicle, FedEx SameDay Bot, will be rolled out in several markets in June or July.
FedEx plans to partner with retailers, including Walgreens, Walmart and Pizza Hut, focusing on deliveries where the store and home are within 1 mile of each other.
“This is an autonomous delivery vehicle that will absolutely change the face of local delivery, particularly into residential areas,” said FedEx President and CEO Brian Philips.
Amazon also has been testing an autonomous robotic delivery vehicle called Amazon Scout.
