FDA approves RFID device to locate breast lumps

The Food and Drug Administration approved Faxitron's device to identify breast lumps for removal prior to surgery.

Here are three things to know.

1. The Localizer is a wireless radiofrequency identification breast lesion localization system.

2. Clinicians can use the device to implant a mini RFID tag at the site of the breast lump up to 30 days prior to surgery.

3. The system includes a handheld mobile reader clinicians use to detect the tag within the breast.
