FDA approves Medtronic’s drug-eluting stent, the smallest on the market

The FDA approved Medtronic’s Resolute Onyx drug-eluting stent Feb. 26 — making it the smallest drug-eluting stent on the U.S. market, according to the Star Tribune.

Here are three things to know.

1. The drug-eluting heart stent, Resolute Onyx 2.0 mm, is intended to treat blockages in tiny blood vessels.

2. Medtronic’s Resolute Onyx 2.0 mm stent, which is the smallest stent on the market in the U.S., joins its line of other Resolute Onyx stents that can treat coronary blood-vessel blockages.

3. The stent is coated with anti-inflammatory drugs that release into the blood vessel over time to prevent another blockage.
