Baxter boosts allocations to 100% for 2 IV solutions: 3 notes

Baxter International has increased  allocations for two U.S. IV solutions to 100% following the disruption caused by Hurricane Helene at its North Cove, N.C., facility, according to a letter to customers available on the website of the American Hospital Association.

Here are three notes:

  1. The specific IV products are 3,000-milliliter 0.9% sodium chloride irrigation and 1,000-milliliter 5% dextrose plus 0.9% sodium chloride, according to the letter.
  2. This change applies both to Baxter’s direct customers and its distribution partners, though there may be a one- to two-week delay in product flow through the distribution network. Allocations for children’s hospitals and renal customers remain unchanged, as do other existing allocations for specific groups.
  3. According to the letter, the decision was based on the progress of remediation efforts at the North Cove facility, reallocation of capacity from other Baxter facilities and the temporary importation of specific products. Baxter also emphasized the ongoing need for conservation strategies to help manage supply levels.
