Avoid syringes made in China, FDA says

As the FDA investigates reports of China-made syringes breaking and leaking, the agency is recommending healthcare workers prioritize syringes manufactured in other countries.

Glass syringes, pre-filled syringes, and syringes used for oral or topical purposes are not part of the quality control concern, the FDA said Nov. 30. Incident reports have included several syringe manufacturers based in China, so the agency is analyzing the issue that might be attributed to changes in the products' dimension.

The FDA said it's working with federal partners and manufacturers, adding that it "may prevent syringes made in China from entering the United States."
