The court order came after FDA inspectors last year found live and dead rodents, roaming cats, a dead possum, animal feces and urine-stained products around J and L Grocery’s seven warehouses used to store food and medical products.
The products “may have become contaminated with filth, including widespread insect, rodent and other live animal infestation, in violation of federal law,” according to the FDA.
Last year, the U.S. Marshals Service conducted a mass seizure of the company’s FDA-regulated human and animal food products, over-the-counter drugs, cosmetic products and medical devices, and J and L agreed to destroy the seized products.
The consent decree requires J and L Grocery to stop distribution of FDA-regulated products until it takes corrective actions and meets FDA standards.
