Amazon to add 120,000 seasonal workers

Amazon plans to hire 20 percent more seasonal warehouse employees than last year to prepare for the surge in shipping demands around the holiday season, reports The Wall Street Journal.

While the Seattle-based online retailer will bring on 120,000 new employees, many of its competitors plan to keep hiring fairly steady. Target will hire 70,000 additional workers — the same number as last year — while Macy's will hire 83,000 new staff members, a 2,000-employee drop from last year, according to the report.

Amazon said last year it hired 14,000 seasonal workers as full-time employees after the holidays and hopes to boost its permanent workforce again this year.
