Amazon exploring technology for more secure package deliveries

Amazon is considering several delivery methods to prevent unattended package deliveries from being stolen or damaged, reports CNBC.

The online retailer is in advanced talks over a potential partnership with the smart license plate maker Phrame, according to an unnamed source familiar with the matter. Phrame's product contains a locked box under the license plate that holds car keys. Users can unlock the box from their phones and grant delivery drivers access to place a package in the car's trunk.

Amazon is also creating a smart doorbell device that would give delivery drivers one-time access to a person's house to drop off a package, two other unnamed sources told CNBC.

The technologies would prevent valuable items from being left unattended for hours once delivered, which poses a major issue for many online retailers.

Both Amazon and Phrame declined CNBC's request for comment.
