Four supply chain initiatives included in the plan:
- The White House said it will invest in efforts to help “fragile” countries procure medical supplies and build capacity to manage surges in demand.
- The U.S. will send more than $100 million in health assistance to India, including delivering medical supplies, oxygen, diagnostics, therapeutics and personal protective equipment. It will also help support pandemic responses in South Asia and Latin America as countries experience COVID-19 surges.
- The U.S. will expand investment in lifesaving medical supplies, including oxygen, diagnostics, therapeutics and personal protective equipment.
“We urge the World Bank Group and the other multilateral development banks to increase the speed of their financial support to the response,” the White House wrote.
- The White House said it “strongly supports the aim of developing a regional network of surge capacity to produce medical countermeasures, PPE and other lifesaving treatments and supplies.”
“We are committed to developing sustainable surge capacity in every region to scale up medical countermeasures and supply production on a ‘no regrets’ basis at the first sign of a health crisis,” the White House wrote.
