Sentara shifts to 4-market model

Hampton Roads, Va.-based Sentara Health is shifting to a new market-based operating model for its 12 hospitals.

Eric Conley, Sentara’s executive vice president and president of acute and post-acute care, said in the May 14 release that the new structure allows the system to tailor operations to meet individual community needs, “while still benefiting from the consistency and coordination of market-based leadership.”

As part of the reorganization, Sentara’s hospitals will operate across four market regions, one eastern, one northwestern and two southeastern markets. Each market will have its own president.

Here is a breakdown of each market, per Sentara’s news release:

Southeast market – Norfolk 

Facilities: Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Va., and Sentara Norfolk (Va.) General Hospital

Leadership:

  • Dana Graves, senior vice president and acute care market president
  • Mike Genco, MD, vice president and market chief medical officer
  • Jennifer Kreiser, BSN, RN, vice president and market chief nursing officer

Southeast market – Virginia Beach 

Facilities: Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, Va., Sentara Virginia Beach (Va.) General Hospital and Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, N.C. 

Leadership:

  • Joanne Inman, senior vice president and acute care market president
  • Bogdan Neughebauer, MD, vice president and market chief medical officer
  • Sonia Cooper, MSN, RN, vice president and market chief nursing officer

Eastern market 

Facilities: Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, Va., Sentara Williamsburg (Va.) Regional Medical Center, Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Va., and Sentara Halifax (Va.) Regional Hospital.

Leadership:

  • Kapua Conley, senior vice president and acute care market president
  • Chris O’Connell, MD, vice president and market chief medical officer
  • Shannon Martin, BSN, RN, vice president and market chief nursing officer

Northwestern market 

Facilities: Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Va., Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, Va., and Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge.

Leadership:

  • Jeff Joyner, senior vice president and acute care market president
  • Robert Garwood, MD, vice president and market chief medical officer
  • Christy Grabus, BSN, RN, vice president and market chief nursing officer
