Since its foundation in 2000, OIA is the only national owner and operator of free standing outpatient imaging center locations whose primary business model remains the joint venture model. Accordingly, OIA has supported many of our collaborative partnerships this year with outpatient imaging growth.
Key Milestones in Joint Venture Growth
- In February, OIA and Piedmont Health formed Piedmont Community Imaging, a joint venture designed to bring consumer focused imaging and convenient access to Piedmont’s vast network of employed and affiliated physicians in the Atlanta market. OIA is currently working on the development or acquisition of multiple centers on behalf of the joint venture.
- In April, UConn Health Imaging, a joint venture between OIA and UConn Health, opened its first freestanding, non-hospital based center in Farmington, Connecticut. Faced with unprecedented backlogs for services at the hospital, this new center aims to improve patient access, reduce appointment wait times, and lower costs for UConn Health’s growing patient population.
- July saw OIA opening its third location alongside Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. This center, located in Greensboro, NC compliments the joint venture’s other existing centers in Winston-Salem and Kernersville, and will reside in a new medical office building that also provides primary and urgent care services.
- In October, OIA entered into a relationship with The University of Southern California and its Keck School of Medicine to develop its first ever off campus imaging center. Located in Pasadena in a brand new, state-of-the-art medical office building, Keck Medicine of USC Imaging Center will support orthopedics, oncology, primary care and other services.
- Lastly, in December of this year, OIA formed a joint venture with an affiliate of the Medical University of South Carolina. This unprecedented effort will bring retail, outpatient imaging services to local residents and support sixteen hospitals and 750 care locations in South Carolina. OIA is already working on developments in multiple municipalities across the state.
A Commitment to Innovation and Accessibility
Each of OIA’s partners has its own reasons for partnering with OIA ranging from the desire to stop leakage from the hospital, to support ambulatory growth or to ensure strong patient/physician satisfaction. Through these partnerships, not only has OIA furthered its commitment to providing high-quality, accessible outpatient imaging services, but OIA remains dedicated to helping hospitals and health systems across the United States think of innovative growth strategies when it comes to outpatient imaging.
“This year has been transformative for OIA,” states Amy Stout, President of Outpatient Imaging Affiliates. “OIA exists to help and support our partners and with three new partnerships and expansion across multiple relationships, our team has enabled several hospitals to improve access and affordability for patients nationwide.”
Looking ahead, OIA is excited to continue innovating and expanding its partnerships, ensuring accessible, high-quality imaging services for communities across the country.
