The plan includes adding an acute-care facility — bringing the total to three — to accommodate a growing population. The project will provide more than $150 million of construction activity in the community and approximately 400 permanent jobs over the next five years, according to the release. The new West Shore Hospital will provide acute medical and surgical services, cardiology, orthopedics, a chronic disease management center, transitional care services and an emergency department. Construction is expected to be completed in 2014.
The strategic plan also includes making major improvements to the system’s Harrisburg Hospital and Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg as well as better coordinating care among different providers. To work towards this goal, the health system recently acquired Heritage Medical Group, a physician group in Lemoyne, Pa., and Tristán Associates, a diagnostic practice based in Harrisburg. In addition, PinnacleHealth aims to develop the flexibility to meet the demands of accountable care and healthcare reform.
