Helena, Mont.-based St. Peter’s Health and Billings (Mont.) Clinic-Logan Health are exploring a partnership to expand local healthcare services.

Four things to know:

1. The organizations have begun discussions around collaborating on clinical services, workforce development, operational efficiencies, technology, purchasing and other strategic initiatives, according to a July 14 joint news release shared with Becker’s.

2. Leaders from both health systems said they plan to formalize a letter of intent outlining goals and objectives for the partnership. The organizations said the discussions do not involve a merger or acquisition.

3. The assessment process is expected to take six to nine months, during which leaders will evaluate opportunities to share clinical expertise and resources while maintaining local governance and decision-making.

4. St. Peter’s Health includes a 123-bed acute care hospital, physician clinics, urgent care clinics, home health and hospice care, cancer treatment center, behavioral health unit, dialysis center and ambulance services.

Billings Clinic-Logan Health operates as one independent health system that includes more than 9,000 employees. Billings (Mont.) Clinic and Kalispell, Mont.-based Logan Health merged Sept. 1, 2023.

“In today’s healthcare environment, partnering is essential for improving access to care when there’s limited clinical resources,” St. Peter’s Health CEO Wade Johnson said in the release. “We believe Montana’s independent health systems can be stronger by working together for our patients.”
