Wellmont Health System Creates Community Hospital Division

Kingsport, Tenn.-based Wellmont Health System is changing its leadership structure to accommodate community hospitals in an effort to enhance patient care and improve relationships with physicians and other care providers, according to a Kingsport Times News report.

Wellmont promoted one of its executives, David Brash, to senior vice president of business development and rural strategy. He will work with system leaders to build deeper relationships with rural communities and physicians in those areas, helping to move forward a community hospital division at Wellmont.

Greg Neal, already the president of several hospitals in the Wellmont system, will oversee several other rural hospitals and work with the management team at Takoma Regional Hospital in Greenville, Tenn., which is a partnership between Wellmont and Winter Park, Fla.-based Adventist Health System.

According to the report, Wellmont has recruited a number of physicians to its community hospitals in the past year, including oncologists, obstetricians and gynecologists, and orthopedic surgeons. The system has also recruited primary care physicians and launched a family medicine residency, which Mr. Brash will oversee.
