9 Recent Strategic Investments by Hospitals

Here are nine strategic investments by hospitals made in the past month, beginning with the most recent.

1. San Antonio-based Baptist Health System opened an "emergency hospital" in Westover Hills, Texas. Baptist Health plans to develop four emergency hospitals in conjunction with The Woodlands, Texas-based Emerus Hospital Partners.

2. The Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis is collaborating with the new IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health to create a joint Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health program.

3. Georgia Health Sciences University in Augusta announced its GHSU Cancer Center has signed a memorandum of understanding for scientific cooperation with the Curie Institute in Paris, France.

4. Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente signed a commitment with the Partnership for a Healthier America to improve food offerings in its 37 hospitals.

5. Johns Hopkins Medicine International, the arm of Johns Hopkins Medicine that establishes foreign partnerships, announced a new partnership with India-based Bharat Family Clinic to establish a network of primary care clinics across India.

6. Indianapolis-based IU Health announced IU Health Bloomington (Ind.) has partnered with Bloomington-based Monroe County YMCA to expand services in the community.

7. WellStar Paulding Hospital in Dallas, Ga., completed geothermal drilling for its new hospital in Hiram, Ga., to provide geothermal energy.

8. The University of Chicago Medicine named its new $700 million hospital the Center for Care and Discovery.

9. Irving, Texas-based CHRISTUS Health is the sole finalist to pursue negotiations with Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago, Chile, toward a definitive joint venture agreement for the ownership, operation and expansion of PUC's health network.
