32 Organizations Participating in IHI's Joint Replacement Collaborative

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement and Harvard Business School have created a new initiative that will focus on lowering costs and improving health outcomes associated with knee and hip replacements.

IHI's Joint Replacement Learning Community will measure costs, analyze data and set targets to improve their joint replacement departments. According to government data, knee and hip replacements are among the most common procedures for Medicare beneficiaries.

IHI, co-founded by former CMS Acting Administrator Don Berwick, MD, enlisted 32 organizations to take part in the JRLC. Those organizations include U.S. hospitals, health systems, an accountable care organization and three international hospitals.
