Maria Portela Martinez, MD. Chief of Medical Training and Geriatrics Branch of the Health Resources Services Administration (Rockville, Md.). A family physician by training, Dr. Martinez’s vision for an evolution in primary care inspired her current role as chief of the medical training and geriatrics branch of HHS’ Health Resources Services Administration. She also provides clinical services at Unity Health Care in Washington, D.C., and is a health equity fellow at D.C.-based George Washington University. A native of Puerto Rico, Dr. Martinez has observed several healthcare systems and shared her expertise with President Barack Obama’s Task Force on Puerto Rico’s Economic Development. She has a passion for mentorship and providing quality healthcare access to vulnerable populations. The National Minority Quality Forum recognized Dr. Martinez with the 40 Under 40 Leaders in Health Award for 2017.
