Mario J. Garner, EdD. President and CEO of New Orleans East Hospital. In the summer of 2013, Dr. Garner was hired as CEO of a yet-to-be-built hospital in eastern New Orleans. New Orleans East Hospital, an 80-bed public facility that opened its doors in 2014, was constructed on the site of the former Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital, destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Dr. Garner, 34, was named the 2015 Young Healthcare Executive of the Year by the American College of Healthcare Executives. At New Orleans East Hospital, he currently oversees a staff of 100 physicians and 230 employees serving a community of more than 120,000. Dr. Garner holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Tulane University in New Orleans and a doctorate of education in administration and supervision from the University of Houston.
