Where are the most employed physicians and surgeons? A breakdown by state

New York has the highest number of employed physicians and surgeons in the United States, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics collected in May 2017. The data includes physicians employed in hospitals and health systems as well as other organizations.

Here are the 14 states with the most employed physicians and surgeons, not including self-employed physicians:

5. Florida: 18,410

7. New Jersey: 14,520
